Date: 15th Jun 2024

Time: Tour starts 11.00.am Only for those who have pre-booked

Location: Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Air Base North Weald

I have arranged for our group to have a bespoke visit to the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Airbase at North Weald on Saturday 15th June 2024.  There is only a limited number of places so it is important that you let me know as soon as possible if you wish to attend to avoid disappointment.  You will have to make your own arrangements to get to and from the North Weald airbase, and you may be able to team up with someone else who is going.  The tour will start at 11.00am, and something to take into consideration is that there is a Saturday market at North Weald, and this can cause delays in getting onto the airfield.  Of course you may want to arrive early and have a look round the market.  Details below about the visit.

Itinerary:

Tours last 1.5 – 2 hours and include a mix of films, narrative and interactive features in the room. If flashing strobe lights are a problem for you, please let your Tour hosts know when you arrive. Our North Weald airbase is home to our Augusta Westland 169 helicopter which you will hopefully see, operations allowing.

Directions:

Our postcode is CM16 6HR. Once through the barrier and on North Weald Airfield do not exceed the 20 mph speed limit. Turn immediately left and FOLLOW THE SOLID RED LINE marked on the road surface, at one point you will cross the top end of the runway – from here use hazard warning lights and give way to taxiing aircraft. Continue around till you come to a sharp left-hand turn when EHAAT Hangar 12 will now be on your right. Please note it is a long way round. Follow directions on the day for parking. Link to PDF map here: North Weald Visitor Centre Directions It may take longer to reach us on a Saturday morning due to the North Weald Market on the airfield.

Our airbases and offices are wheelchair friendly. If you have any other requirements please contact Jane Morton by email: jane.morton@ehaat.org

  • Do not enter any restricted areas, unless permitted by and accompanied by a member of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance crew or staff.

  • We operate a no-smoking policy throughout our airbase sites.
  • Alcohol is forbidden.
  • Please wear the high-vis vest when instructed, and protection glasses need to be worn whilst watching the helicopter take off or land.
  • All rubbish MUST be disposed of properly in the bins provided (rubbish and other debris can cause severe damage to aircraft and cause operations to be grounded).
  • In the event of the helicopter being called to an emergency, you MUST watch from a safe area so please follow instructions given by our staff and volunteers. Always walk and never run, you will have enough time to move to a safe viewing point.
